History of The City Park Denver, Colorado

Situated on 320 acres, Denver’s historic City Park is home to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Denver ZooFerril Lake, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the metro area.

Developed from an original 1882 design by Henry Meryweather, the park owes its pastoral feel to the English gardens that preceded it — along with New York’s Central Park, from which Meryweather also drew inspiration. Construction began in 1886, and while its original design is largely intact, a slew of the world’s most famous landscape architects contributed to its improvement throughout the early 20th century.

Today, visitors to Denver’s City Park can rent paddle boats at Ferril Lake, enjoy a free summer concert series, picnic with friends . . . or even get married!
